Recently, we have been working on a way to make LKWebHosting more localized. As you are already aware of, we are still using a .com domain name and it’s one of a major issues that we have been facing when we wanted to establish our local identity. We cannot use a domain name like lkwebhosting.lk because it does not make sense to have “lk” in two places in the domain name. As a result of these discussions, we have finally decided to change LKWebHosting to a different name: provider.lk because we are the only provider in Sri Lanka to offer you all the web services in one place.

Q: What else will be changed other than your domain name, provider.lk?

A: The new localized name will allow us to target more Sri Lankan clients and prevent the confusions in web hosting company’s names. Other than the service improvements, we will remain the same and it’s only a brand name (and domain name) change. We are the same team providing the same services and there will be no changes to the prices or the ownership of the company.

The domain domain name willl be changed to: Provider.lk

The default nameservers will be changed to: dns1.provider.lk, dns2.provider.lk

The client area URL will be changed to: https://my.provider.lk

Q: When will this change happen?

A: We have already started working on performing the necessary back-end changes and we will update you via email whenever this has been completed. Meanwhile, you can still access LKWebHosting.com and use the same client area.

Q: Do I have to do anything?

A: You will only have to use the new client area and the new nameservers. Please make sure you update all of your domain names’ nameservers to the below nameservers in order to get a smooth transfer.

The above nameservers are up and fully functional.

We will start redirecting lkwebhosting.com to provider.lk (including the client area) once we have completed the migration.

Q: Do I get something because of this change?

What is self-healing/automatic failover?

Whenever one server encounter any hardware failure, all of your data will be migrated to standby nodes to make your websites up and running as fast as possible.

How it’s possible?

Our Linux cloud hosting servers are powered by OnApp or Citrix XenServer cloud platform which is fully redundant and scalable.  Every setup has at least one primary node and one stand-by node that are pooled together. A Storage Area Network (SAN) array has been connected to this resource pool over a dedicated and private network, connected to the second network interface of the servers.

We provision our cloud virtual machines with cPanel/WHM on the primary node and allocate SAN storage to store customer data. It means that your data is not local to a specific server, and it allows us to enable self-healing whenever there is a hardware failure.

What is a Storage Area Network (SAN)?

A Storage Area Network (SAN) is a centralized physical disk array and the storage can be allocated to the cloud virtual machines by using iSCSI technology over the network. It means that the disks are not physically connected to the servers by using SATA cables. Click here for more information

What if the SAN array fails?

We have found a solution for this issue too :), we have configured data mirroring across multiple data centers which are physically isolated. Technologies like GlusterFS and Ceph are used to mirror data across different data centers. Since the storage arrays are geographically redundant, we can ensure there will be no issue if a single SAN array fails.
